It's our honour and privilege to announce that the first-ever Michael Hendy Award was presented to Jessica Lanzolla on May 30, 2013, during the Interior Design Vernissage.

Jessica is an outstanding Interior Design student at Dawson who has just successfully completed her first year in the program, and we wish her luck and success in her future endeavours.

The Michael Hendy Award Endowment Fund

Michael’s passion for interior design was fostered and developed by the program of study he pursued at Dawson College. The Interior Design diploma at Dawson was and continues to be a rigorous, challenging and stimulating program, and it can be very difficult for students to work at the same time. Many talented aspiring designers must support themselves during their course of study, as well as paying for the required materials, which can be prohibitive. We have decided to honour Michael’s memory by setting up an annual award for a student in the program, one who demonstrates both financial need and academic promise, in order to ease the financial burden and reward their efforts.
A $2000 award will be given to a student selected by a panel of Interior Design teachers, who has successfully completed their first year of the program, and it will be presented in Michael’s name at the graduating student vernissage.

To make this possible, we are building up an endowment fund, one that will finance the award for years to come. Please consider contributing to this worthy cause. Your donation is fully tax-deductible and greatly appreciated. We hope you’ll help us keep Michael’s memory alive in this very special way.

To donate by CREDIT CARD, please phone the Dawson College Awards & Scholarship Office at 514 931-8731 extension 1214.

To donate by CHEQUE, please make it payable to the Dawson College Foundation: Michael Hendy Award. Please send by mail to the Dawson College Awards & Scholarship Office, 3040 Sherbrooke St. West, 2E 15-2, Montreal, QC H3Z 1A4.

Happy Birthday Michael

Dear Friends,

This April would have marked Michael Simon Hendy's twenty-fifth birthday. A milestone that, were he still among us, would have undoubtedly have been THE party of the season. In true Michael fashion, invitations would be printed, atmosphere curated to the smallest detail, and outfits deliberated well in advance. The evening's elegance would be effortless too; the flow of conversation constant between friends, both old and new, the glasses always full, and the music just right. Michael had a gentleman's manner and an easy laugh, drawing us towards him with a remarkable gravitational pull. He was generous with his friendship and fiercely loyal. When he passed away this summer from bacterial meningitis, leaving behind his parents Pam and Don and his brother Matthew, we were many who shared in their loss...

Now, we'd like to invite you to join us in being many to support a very worthy cause. Through an ongoing dialogue with the Montreal Neurological Institute, it has come to our attention that a specific piece of medical equipment, the Hemedex Cerebral Blood Flow Monitoring System, is indispensable in the monitoring of meningitis and other neurological conditions, and can significantly alter treatment outcomes. We have decided to do everything in our power to raise the funds necessary to make sure the MNI has access to this machine.

In order to both meet this objective and honour Michael's legacy in a style he would have approved, we are hosting a highly-anticipated charity event that we sincerely hope you'll attend: his twenty-fifth birthday party. The Michael Hendy Gala will take place in the Tudor Hall at Ogilvy on April 7th, where friends, family, and supporters will celebrate his memory amid 1940s glamour, fabulous entertainment, and great company. Please join us in raising much-needed funds for the Montreal Neurological Institute, raising meningitis awareness, and raising a glass to our beloved Michael on his birthday.

Tickets for the Michael Hendy Gala are $65 each, to benefit the Montreal Neurological Institute. Wine, an assortment of delicious hors-d'oeuvres and entertainment are included in the ticket price. We hope you'll help us make this inaugural event a great success by choosing to attend. If you cannot make it but would still like to help, donations to the Michael Hendy Fund at the Montreal Neurological Institute are greatly appreciated, and contribute directly to the acquisition of the Hemedex System.

See you at 7 on the 7th of April 2011!
